Dominican Republic

Our hotel in Santa Domingo, built in 1502 as the Governor's Palace.

Museum of the Royal Houses in the Colonial Zone, built in 1511 and used by Governor to greet citizens

Sugar cane press

Ancient crossbows

America's first courtroom; accused would sit on the very low stools in the center of the picture

Prison on grounds built for Spanish military; Christopher Columbus was held here for a few days of his third trip when accused of stealing treasures on an earlier journey.  The queen released him because they were in love.

Cathedral in the city plaza.

Front of the cathedral

Latin American navy tall ships in port

Huge mangos hanging from the trees (hard to see from the moving bus, but the blurry red orbs)
